Update: Aubie has been at the vet hospital for over a week now and they’re telling me to prepare for the worst. He’s on IV fluids tonight, but his body isn’t responding well…

My 5 years old cat, Aubie, hadn’t been feeling well for the past week. He hadn’t been eating much, sleeping all the time, and started turning yellow. I took him to the vet a couple of days ago and he’s been there ever since.

They had to do some exams and start feeding him right away. It turned out he has “fatty liver.” It’s when the cat stops eating for some reason and a lot of his fat clogs up the liver. I found a website that talks in detail about this disease.

According to it, 35% of the cats with it end up dieing. I went to visit him today and he was sedated… The vet said he looked worse than he actually was. They put the feeding tube on his neck, so he’ll have to be fed like that for at least 1 month… until he feels well enough to start eating on his own.

He’ll be at the vet until Monday… so hopefully by then we’ll know for sure it’s not anything else more serious (waiting on the biopsy) and work on feeding the fatty cat. I’ll be in Vegas this weekend, but I’m going to stop by the vet before heading to the airport tomorrow to check on him.

The bill will be in the $2K neigborhood… Definitely not a good time for that.
