Another day at work…

And another day “at work” is almost over… I’m loving not having to work for somebody else anymore. For the past four years that I worked in the US, I remember waking up every day and saying “<censured>, I have to go to work…” and I was always late… and everything else most people, who work, have to put up with too.

No, it wasn’t always like this… there were a few moments that I actually enjoyed all of the jobs I’ve had, but it never lasted long. During those 8-10 hours a day, I’d be thinking about new things I wanted to do for I-stats or YowTRIP… or whatever else.

Anyway, the past is past. Hopefully I won’t have to go back to work (for other people) ever again, but if I do, you’ll see me saying “yeah, I missed the work environment…” and this blog post will be long gone. But, we’ll deal with that when we get there.

So, I just wanted to share a little bit about what I’ve been doing every day.

Well, I haven’t gotten to a routine yet, because I’m still getting immigration stuff done and some remainer issues from the US to resolve…

I’m not so sure what time I’ve been waking up (beause I don’t have to be anywhere), but here’s how it happens. I don’t have a curtain yet, so at some time in the morning (when it’s sunny), the sun starts shining on the right side of my bed, so the heat wakes me up… so I start rolling to the left side until I hit the wall and the sun catches up… Then I get up.

Then, the first thing I do is to turn on the computer to check emails, read blogs, check the news… and there’s usually little things to take care of… I make myself a sandwich and start going through those issues…

Yesterday, for example, I had to call Qwest to find out why in the world they were still charging me for Internet in Colorado… Then, California was complaining about me not re-registering my car in there (apparently I was supposed to let them know or something)… Oh yeah, Chase called me about a $1,000 purchase at a Wal-Mart in NY (somebody got my credit card somehow)… and I had to call HSBC to find out why in the world they were charging me $.25-$.50 every time I used my check card here… so, just the usual stuff…

But that was only yesterday… there wasn’t anything today (it was sunny again, so I woke up whenever the sun shined this morning too.)

Then I get to work… I eat sandwiches/snacks throughout the day and at about 10-11pm I go get dinner… I can’t tell you how happy I get when I see the sign at a Chinese restaurant saying they’re open until 3am. No more of that non-sense of having to rush to a restaurant before 9-10pm because otherwise I’d be stuck with Windy’s or Taco Bell.

Then I come back home and work some more… The other night I went to get some food and the bar on the corner had a comedy show going on, so I ate there and had some laughs. Then, back to work. :)

Oh, here’s Aubie giving some moral support…
(actually he’s trying to get my attention because he’s out of food - I’ll get some more tomorrow)

So, tomorrow I have a “Bienvenue au Quebec” thing in the morning… Not so sure what that’s about, since I got all my paperwork already. I think it’s also to give me some info about where/how to look for a job (yeah, right).

Then, at night I’m meeting some of the tech people at the Montreal Startup Drinks. So, that will be good to meet some more people here… and talk about YowTRIP. :)

On the day after tomorrow (what is day today?)… so on Thursday, I’m going to take a French placement test and figure out when I’ll be able to sign up for some French lessons… I’ve been trying to speak French with most people when I go out, but sometimes I end up speaking English. So, once I start the course, I think I’ll be more used to speaking French and I will refuse to speak English. We’ll see how that will go. :)

Everything else is going well… Oh yeah, it’s starting to get cold… It’s been in the high 50’s/low 60’s (and the heater doesn’t seem to be working… I need to talk to the people downstairs about it tomorrow too…)

Come visit in Montreal, people!
